ROD RUN VOLUNTEERS

The Hutchinson Rockin’ Rollin’ Rod Run 2010 will be a weekend of “Rods, Racin’ and Rock & Roll!” 

This year the event takes place at a new time - the 4th of July weekend, Friday, July 2nd  through Sunday, July 4th.  The event also has a new home – The Kansas State Fairgrounds!  It promises to be a busy, high energy, exciting event with more activities than ever before.  In addition to the new time of year and new location, the 3rd Annual Hutchinson Rod Run will be run in conjunction with the 54th Annual Grand National Stock Car Races at the Fairgrounds track.

On Thursday, July 1, from noon to 8:00 pm, vehicle registration will take place, and the show cars, vendors and sponsors will be setting up inside the Sunflower buildings, the Meadowlark and the Pride of Kansas buildings or in the grassy area in front of the buildings.  That evening will be open practice for the stock car races at the track and is free to spectators.

Friday, July 2, vehicle registration will continue until 7:30 pm.  The gates will open to the public and the show will begin at noon.  Activities will include the Show & Shine of the show cars and motorcycles, vendor and sponsor displays and demonstrations, an auto swap meet, kid’s activities, musical entertainment on the Bretz Law stage, a welcome BBQ outside under the big refreshment tent, the stock car races, and after the races, dancing at the Bretz Law Stage to the music of the “King Midas Band.”

Saturday, July 3, the gates will open at 10:00 am.  The Show & Shine, vendor and sponsor displays and demonstrations, swap meet and kid’s activities will continue, with more great cookout food, and more rock & roll music from the stage.  The finals of the Stock Car Races will begin at 6:00 pm with opening ceremonies and continue until about 9:30 pm followed by more live music, dancing and celebrating at the Bretz Law Stage.

Sunday, July 4th will begin with a Pancake Breakfast in the park followed by Hot Rod Church.  The entire community is invited to both of these events as well as the continuation of the Rod Run.  At 4:00 pm, the event will culminate with the presentation of the awards and trophies.

Being a part of the Rod Run is a great way to have fun and be an active part of your community.  If you would like to work as a volunteer on a committee at the Rod Run, sign up on the attached sheet and let us know what you would especially like to do!  We’ve listed lots of choices to consider on the application form.
