The 4th Annual Downtown Hutchinson Rod Run and Classic Car Show is all about remembering – bringing up warm, sentimental, exciting memories from the past.
And lots of those memories most likely include an automobile. Be it a first car, a favorite car, a car in which you cruised Main Street and felt on top of the world, or a car you bought and worked on until you could take it out and show it off, or maybe a car that many years later you found again, and refurbished.
Unlike many other special events and car shows, the Downtown Hutchinson Rod Run & Classic Car Show is not only a special event, but is also designed as an economic development project to showcase the newly renovated downtown area. Hutchinson Rod Run, Inc’s primary objective is to create a significant economic impact in the Hutchinson community through tourism by producing the annual Rod Run.
We invite all of you car enthusiasts to join us in downtown Hutchinson, Kansas September 30 through October 2, 2011 to remember those great memories of the past for a jam packed weekend of cars, trucks, and motorcycles. And in addition to the car show, this year we are going to entertain men, ladies, locals and visitors alike with special events within the Rod Run and Car Show. This year we will start the three-day weekend with a Friday Morning Golf Tournament, followed by vehicle registration at McVay’s Yellow Cab Building “The Garage”, show and shine and a 6PM City-Wide Cruise. Residents of Hutchinson will want to pull out the lawn chairs and sit by the curb as the cars, trucks and motorcycles (about 200 of them) parade by for your entertainment. Or, better yet, come on down to Avenue A and Main for the Friday Night Happy Hour, 4 to 9 PM.
Happy Hour activities will include watching the parade of show cars cruise by, a fantastic outdoor cook-out, cold beer to enjoy as you walk the event area, and a rock and roll Street Dance at Avenue A and Main. And as a special attraction, check out Bud Light’s MXT, an awesome vehicle incorporating state of the art audio, visual and gaming components on display. Memorial Hall will be open all day, all three days to host Rod Run Marketplace where vendors of all sorts will show their wares while videos of past car shows are shown on the big screen.
An addition to the event this year is a live auction of cars and car-related items on Saturday. Sunday morning will begin with Hot Rod Church in the Avenue A Gazebo. Of course, Friday night, Saturday and Sunday will be a time for Show and Shine of the registered vehicles for everyone to enjoy. The event will conclude with a Sunday afternoon Awards Ceremony in Memorial Hall. Everyone is invited to attend these events and enjoy a beautiful fall day in downtown Hutchinson!
It’s an entire weekend of events planned for residents and visitors alike. Plan to come and be a part of the fun, volunteer to help in one of many activities, showcase your business by being a sponsor, or set up a vendor booth to sell your wares in the Marketplace.
